The goal of this course is to provide the students with a broad overview of metamaterials and integrated nanophotonics and help the students to learn current research topics in nanophotonics. The course will cover fundamental principles governing the operation and design of plasmonic, metamaterial, and integrated photonic devices, and will discuss their applications for manipulating light on the micro/nanoscale.

This course provides the students a broad overview of modern optics and helps them to learn and understand the fundamentals of photonics. Fundamentals include: classical ray optics, wave (diffraction and interference) and polarization optics, Fourier optics, electromagnetic waves, guided waves, resonators, and photonic crystals. New and interesting optical phenomena that are related to the topics will be introduced as well.
